The Craft Café is a social creative venue where older people can learn new skills, renew social networks and reconnect with their community.  Activities are intended to foster the intrinsic joys of creativity, artistic expression and learning.

It seeks to reduce isolation and loneliness experienced by older people; to enable them to make positive lifestyle changes associated with ageing and ultimately, to bring about a better quality of life.

As the number of older people in the country increases, more are living alone and are more socially isolated.  Social isolation and loneliness are consistently associated with reduced health and wellbeing and there is emerging evidence to demonstrate the positive relationship between active engagement in the arts for older people boosts both their physical, mental and social wellbeing.

The Golden Valley Active Ageing Health & Wellbeing Hub

The project has been brought into fruition through the support and funding of Herefordshire LEADER rural fund and combined trading profits of C.A.R.E. (Herefordshire) CIC.

The new project brings into fruition a much needed community hub – a social venue which sets to redress rural social isolation and loneliness, through planned active ageing activities.  C.A.R.E. CIC has a passion for seeing its communities flourish and hosts many intergenerational events; helping its older residents to keep physically and mentally well. Many of its social engagements are through intergenerational workshops that are inclusive to those living with dementia; helping its older and more vulnerable of residents to be socially connected and involved in community life.

-Benefits of keeping active and maintaining everyday skills

“Keeping occupied and stimulated can improve quality of life for the person with dementia as well as the people around them. Activities can act as an opportunity for fun, encourage independence, social inclusion, communication and a way of expression of feelings.”
